Finding Your Style of Evangelism
What kind of person are you? Are you confident and assertive? Are you
inquisitive and analytical? Are you warm and conversational? Are you a good
communicator
and story teller? Are you others-centered and humble?
Are you hospitable and relational? Whatever
combination of words best
describes you will be a key to finding the style of evangelism that best
fits you. That’s the beauty about evangelism. It isn’t supposed to feel like
a chain and ball strapped to your ankle. It isn’t supposed to be something
you hate and that forces you to be different than who you really are.
You need to be freed up to be part of the Great Commission. You need to
understand that God knew what He was doing when He made you just like you
are, and contrary to traditional thinking, you can be effective at drawing
people to Jesus without fitting into someone else’s mold. That’s right, you
can be yourself. Why is it that
so many of us do not share our faith? Part of the problem is that we have
misconceptions about evangelism. We think it is something either done by the
spiritual superstar like Billy Graham or something that is done by the
obnoxious zealot. Since we know that we are no Billy Graham and we
definitely don’t want to be an obnoxious zealot, we conclude that evangelism
is not for us. The truth is that God does not expect us all to do evangelism
the same way. God made us with our own personality and the key to doing
evangelism is finding our style of evangelism.
